ABOUT THE COMPETITION

The purpose of the Classic Wine Trophy is to recognize, reward and promote wines of elegance, balance and finesse with the ability to age well. The Classic Wine Trophy is committed to upholding the highest standards in this unique celebration of South African wine and the trophies are only awarded to the most iconic entries: wines made with patience and excellence.

The Classic Wine Trophy stands out from other competitions in that the wine entries are adjudicated by a panel of French judges, the wines are tasted 100% blind and the competition limits the number of trophy winners to only 17 gold medals so as to ensure legitimacy and credibility for winners.
